About the area
The Lincolnshire Wolds are chalk hills which run from the Humber Estuary in the north to Spilsby in the south. They have a subtle beauty which as yet remains largely undiscovered. Features include:-

Walks and cycle rides

From the Viking Way or the Lincolnshire Trail to a gentle stroll or a cycle hop between two pubs, the area has numerous walks and rides - all along quiet roads, bridleways and footpaths.

Antiques

Horncastle, about ten minutes drive from Alford has about thirty antiques shops in the town centre, ranging from up-market shops to a huge emporium of bric a brac. Hemswell Cliff, about 40 minutes drive away is the site of a centre of about 150 antique dealers with a huge Sunday market adjacent - well worth a visit. Alford itself is now developing a growing number of antique shops.

Historic sites

The whole area is dotted with Roman and pre-Roman remains. Lincoln, about 40 minutes away by car, is a major Roman settlement and historic city and also the main shopping centre for the area.

Entertainment

From motor racing at Cadwell Park to live music at Spilsby Theatre, the Blackfiars Arts Centre in Boston, and the unique Kinema-in-the-woods, there is a variety of events throughout the year. See our sample diary of events.
